🚨 Trade Update: AMD β€” Both Price Targets Hit βœ…βœ…

We recommended Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD) on September 10, 2026, at a buy level of $493.00, with price targets of $567.00 (PT1) and $595.00 (PT2) and a stop-loss at $460.00 on a closing basis.

Both targets have been achieved β€” the stock closed at $623.77, comfortably above PT2, after hitting an intraday high of $624.52 β€” delivering gains of approximately 15% and 21% from the entry level in just under two weeks.

How to manage the position from here: Traders with a conservative risk appetite may consider booking profits at current levels. Those looking to ride the remaining momentum can continue holding with a trailing stop at $595.00 (our PT2), locking in a minimum ~21% gain while leaving room for further upside.

Bottom line: Both targets hit in just under two weeks β€” book profits or trail your stop to $595.00 and let the rest run. And now, on to today’s featured setup…

Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS) just broke out of a three-and-a-half-month falling wedge on a two-day surge of nearly 20% β€” and looks headed even higher.

As we’ll get to just ahead, the combination of a major win with one of America’s largest cloud computing giants, record sales powered by the AI boom, and a fresh technical breakout makes RMBS one of the more interesting setups on the board. Here’s what’s going on…

The Themes Behind the Move

Rambus is a San Jose–based semiconductor company that designs and sells memory interface chips for servers and PCs β€” including its DDR5 registering clock drivers (RCDs), data buffers, and power-management chips β€” along with silicon IP (licensable chip designs for high-speed memory, chip-to-chip connections, and hardware security) and a long-standing portfolio of memory and security patents that generates royalty income.

In plain English, every AI server needs to shuttle enormous amounts of data between its processors and its memory β€” and Rambus makes the small “traffic controller” chips that sit on memory modules and keep that data flowing at blistering speeds. It also licenses the blueprints chip designers use to build those high-speed connections into their own silicon. That means Rambus gets paid as AI data centers expand, without having to bet on which AI chipmaker ultimately wins.

RMBS’s latest move reflects a powerful confluence of developments β€” commercial, technological, and financial β€” that have come together in rapid succession to fundamentally reframe the company’s near-term growth trajectory.

Theme / Catalyst What Happened Why Traders Care
Tier-1 hyperscaler AI memory design win During its July 27 Q2 call, Rambus disclosed a design win with a Tier-1 U.S. hyperscaler (one of the giant cloud companies that run massive data centers) for next-generation HBM β€” the ultra-fast “high-bandwidth memory” stacked next to AI chips β€” in future AI processors. Management clarified this is an IP design win, meaning licensing revenue can begin during the customer’s development cycle. It builds on Rambus’s HBM4E Controller IP, introduced March 4, which supports up to 16 Gb/s per pin / 4.1 TB/s per HBM device and follows more than 100 prior HBM design wins. The biggest cloud companies are increasingly designing their own custom AI chips rather than relying only on off-the-shelf GPUs. Landing inside one of those programs gives Rambus direct exposure to that fast-growing trend β€” with the potential for the win to expand across the customer’s broader chip ecosystem over time.
New product rollout β€” faster server memory + AI security On July 8, Rambus launched its complete DDR5-9600 server memory chipset, led by its sixth-generation RCD running at 9,600 MT/s β€” a 20% bandwidth increase over the prior generation β€” plus companion power-management, SPD Hub and temperature-sensor chips. Then on September 14, it launched CryptoManager Root of Trust for the open Caliptra specification β€” a production-ready hardware security subsystem for data-center and AI chips. The full chipset increases Rambus’s dollar content per server memory module, while the security IP extends its reach beyond memory into the same custom AI chips targeted by its HBM and PCIe portfolio. The broader 2026 roadmap β€” SOCAMM2, client DDR5-9600, HBM4E and PCIe 7.0 β€” gives Rambus multiple shots on goal across AI servers, AI PCs, and high-speed interconnect.
Sector tailwinds AI infrastructure is increasingly constrained by memory bandwidth, memory capacity and component availability. South Korean semiconductor exports surged 259.4% YoY during September 1–20, while recent industry reporting continues to show tight memory supply and strong AI-server and networking demand. Memory has become one of the key bottlenecks in AI β€” and Rambus sells the interface chips and IP that help solve it. Importantly, it’s a supplier to the memory ecosystem rather than a DRAM manufacturer, so it benefits from tight supply and rising demand without carrying the heavy factory costs of the memory makers themselves.
Record Q2 + fortress balance sheet Rambus reported record Q2 2026 revenue of $207.4 million (+20% YoY), ahead of roughly $199.3 million consensus, with record product revenue of $99.2 million (+22% YoY, +13% QoQ) and non-GAAP EPS of $0.77 versus ~$0.72 expected. Non-GAAP operating margin was about 45%, operating cash flow was $61.2 million, and cash and marketable securities totaled $824.9 million at June 30, per its 10-Q. Q3 guidance calls for $210M–$216M revenue, including $110M–$116M in product revenue. The key takeaway is that AI demand is already showing up in physical chip sales, not just future licensing potential β€” and Q3 guidance points to another step up. Pair that with high margins and more than $800 million in cash, and Rambus has the financial firepower to keep investing through the AI buildout.
Analyst coverage Recent sell-side coverage is predominantly positive, with consensus aggregators classifying RMBS as a Moderate Buy. Six of the seven firms with recent actions rate it Buy or Outperform: Wells Fargo and Jefferies reiterated at $145, Rosenblatt maintained Buy at $165, Benchmark initiated at Buy with $165, Evercore ISI trimmed to $160 while keeping Outperform, and William Blair reiterated Outperform. Those six published targets average roughly $150 β€” about 43% above the Sep. 22 close of $105.24 β€” with the $165 high implying roughly 57% upside. Even the most cautious target on the board β€” Baird’s $120 Neutral call from April β€” sits above today’s price. With the Street’s average target well above both of our price targets, analysts appear to have plenty of room to stay constructive if the Q3 numbers land.
Market conviction signal On August 5, Rambus initiated a $100 million accelerated share repurchase with Mizuho, receiving roughly 796,000 shares up front. The breakout itself came on the heaviest daily volume since the late-June spike (~11 million shares), with gains of 10.68% on Sep. 21 and 8.54% on Sep. 22. Longer-dated options activity has also been active, including a 749-contract bullish sweep of January 2028 $130 calls on Sep. 1 β€” though overall options flow has been mixed. A company buying back its own stock at scale is putting real money behind its view that shares are undervalued. And when a breakout comes on the heaviest volume in months, it suggests buyers are stepping in with size rather than the move simply drifting higher on thin trading.
Upcoming triggers Traders are watching the confirmed October 22 Rambus Design Summit 2026, focused on memory, interconnect and security for agentic AI; Q3 2026 earnings, estimated for October 26 (not yet company-confirmed), with product revenue versus the $110M–$116M guide as the key checkpoint; and a more meaningful MRDIMM ramp in 2027 as new server platforms qualify. A tight cluster of catalysts in late October β€” a product-roadmap event followed days later by earnings β€” gives the stock two near-term chances to confirm the AI growth story, with a longer runway of new memory architectures ramping into 2027.

Put it all together, and RMBS is looking less like a legacy patent-licensing company living off royalties and more like a fast-growing AI infrastructure supplier β€” with record chip sales, a design win inside a major hyperscaler’s custom AI program, a steady stream of new products, and more than $800 million in cash to fund the push.

The story is getting stronger, but the chart is what could determine whether this move has more room to run in the near term. Here are the bullish technical signals traders should be watching now.

Bullish Technical Signals

#1 Falling Wedge Pattern Breakout: After peaking near $175 in early June, RMBS spent roughly three and a half months grinding lower inside a falling wedge, marked by the purple trendlines on the daily chart. The shape of that decline matters. The upper rail fell steeply while the lower rail sloped more gently, so each push to a new low covered less ground than the one before. Sellers were still in charge, but they were losing leverage with every leg. Price has now broken above the upper boundary on the heaviest daily volume since the late-June spike (~11M shares), and it followed through with back-to-back strong sessions, including Tuesday’s +8.54% advance to $105.24. The volume is what separates this from a routine bounce: buyers absorbed the overhead supply the wedge had been feeding them and kept bidding. With the pattern having contained a drawdown of more than 50% from peak to trough, there is plenty of retracement room overhead. The broken upper rail in the high-$80s now becomes the first line of support.

RMBS – Daily Chart

#2 Price Above 50-Day SMA: RMBS has reclaimed its 50-day SMA ($93.13) decisively. This is its first sustained close above the average since early July, and price now sits roughly 13% above it. The context should be stated plainly. The 50-day has been declining since it rolled over near $135 in late June, and it slipped beneath the 200-day in late August, so this is a reclaim against a still-falling average rather than a golden-cross setup. That is why the next level matters so much. The 200-day SMA ($107.72) sits directly overhead and coincides almost exactly with the $108 horizontal level (green dotted line). That level served as support from April through June before giving way in July, so it is a classic support-turned-resistance zone. A close above ~$108 would put price above both daily averages and turn the reclaim into a full trend repair, which is precisely why the buy level is set there. After a two-session surge of nearly 20%, a pause or shallow pullback toward the $96–$100 area would be normal digestion, not a failure.

#3 Bullish ADX and DI: The directional read has flipped sharply. +DI (39.99) has surged through –DI (20.14), which puts buyers in control of direction with a spread of roughly 20 points, a meaningful tilt rather than a marginal one. The speed of the flip is itself informative: +DI roughly doubled in a handful of sessions as the wedge resolved. ADX (27.96) sits above the 25 threshold that separates trending from directionless markets. It also rests between the two DI lines rather than above +DI, which signals a trend with force behind it but not yet an overheated one. One nuance is worth naming. ADX measures strength regardless of direction, so part of its current reading is carried over from the summer downtrend. The confirmation to watch is ADX hooking higher while +DI stays dominant, because at that point its strength belongs unambiguously to the new up-leg. Stacked against the wedge breakout, the directional handoff and the price structure are already pointing the same way.

#4 Bullish MACD: The MACD line (–0.37) is running well above its signal line (–2.76), and the histogram has expanded to +2.39, its largest positive reading in months. The path to this point is what gives it weight. After bottoming near –10 in late July, both lines spent August and most of September flatlining just below zero, a basing phase in which downside momentum was spent but upside momentum had not yet arrived. The breakout has now jolted the MACD out of that base, and the widening histogram shows short-term momentum pulling away from the longer-term average rather than merely drifting above it. The MACD line is also on the cusp of crossing zero. A crossover firing this close to the zero line tends to carry more follow-through than one triggered deep in negative territory, and a push above zero would mark the transition from recovery to an outright uptrend.

#5 Above Support Area with Price Above 200-Week SMA: The weekly chart places the daily breakout inside a larger story. The $88.02 level (pink dotted line) defined the floor of RMBS’s October 2025 to March 2026 consolidation and held on repeated tests. The summer selloff briefly pushed weekly closes below it into the low $80s, and this week price has reclaimed it forcefully. That sequence is a failed breakdown: sellers who pressed the break are now trapped beneath a recovered level, and their exit becomes fuel for the advance. The secular backdrop is firmly intact. Price is more than 50% above a steadily rising 200-week SMA ($69.30), and the 50-week ($106.67) holds well above the 200-week, preserving long-term golden-cross alignment. That frames the June to September decline as a correction within a multi-year uptrend rather than a regime change. The 50-week also lands in the same $107–$108 zone as the daily 200-day and the horizontal $108 level. Three separate references converging on one price is exactly the type of multi-timeframe confluence that makes a breakout above it significant.

RMBS – Weekly Chart

#6 Bullish RSI: The weekly RSI (50.69) has crossed back above its 50 midline and its own signal average (43.79). It is climbing out of a trough near 40 and reclaiming bullish territory for the first time since early July. That is a two-part read. The 50 cross hands momentum back to buyers on the timeframe that matters most for a multi-month trade, and the steep upslope shows momentum expanding rather than stalling at the midline. Runway is ample: with nearly 20 points before the 70 overbought threshold, the rally can extend meaningfully before momentum becomes a headwind. For reference, RSI peaked near 80 during the spring advance. Because the weekly candle is only partway through the week, a Friday close holding above 50 is the confirmation to look for.

#7 Bullish Stochastic: On the weekly stochastic, %K (37.67) has crossed above %D (18.17) after both lines spent several weeks pinned deep in oversold territory. A cross from that location is among the highest-conviction readings the oscillator produces. It signals that selling pressure has been fully wrung out on a timeframe where exhaustion is hard to fake. The roughly 19-point gap that has already opened between the lines shows %K accelerating sharply rather than flickering. RMBS’s own history adds weight. Comparable weekly oversold crossovers in late summer 2024, spring 2025, and early 2026 each preceded multi-month advances. With both lines still well below the 80 overbought zone, this momentum rotation has room to run. It also lines up with the support reclaim in Signal #5 and the RSI turn in Signal #6, so the full weekly panel is confirming the daily breakout.

Risks to Consider

Even strong setups can fail, especially in a fast-moving AI semiconductor name like Rambus. A few things could knock the stock off course:

  • A breakdown back below the falling wedge β€” or a close below the $96.00 stop-loss β€” on heavy volume would invalidate the breakout thesis
  • Negative company-specific news or broader market weakness β€” a slowdown in hyperscaler AI spending, server builds, or memory investment would pressure both product volumes and new IP deals, and investors are already demanding wider spreads on AI-linked corporate debt
  • South Korea antitrust investigation β€” on July 15, Seoul prosecutors raided the Korean offices of Rambus, Montage Technology and Renesas over alleged price coordination in memory-interface components; these are allegations, not findings, and no charges against Rambus have been publicly announced
  • Valuation and short-term extension β€” at the $105.24 close, RMBS trades at roughly 48.3Γ— trailing earnings, ~31Γ— forward earnings and ~15Γ— sales, and back-to-back gains of 10.68% and 8.54% raise the risk of near-term profit-taking
  • Royalty volatility β€” Q3 royalty guidance of $69M–$75M is below Q2’s $84.2 million, though guided product revenue is rising to $110M–$116M
  • Supply-chain and platform-timing risk β€” management continues to flag tight semiconductor supply and lengthening lead times into 2026–27, and new standards like MRDIMM, HBM4E and PCIe 7 can take multiple quarters to turn into meaningful revenue
  • Competition from specialized interface-chip suppliers including Montage and Renesas could pressure pricing or market share
  • Insider selling β€” SEC filings confirm director Charles Kissner sold shares in August; not a broad insider exit, but worth monitoring

The Bottom Line

RMBS is breaking out of a three-and-a-half-month falling wedge on the daily chart while reclaiming a key support area above its rising 200-week SMA on the weekly β€” a dual-timeframe technical setup that historically signals the start of a sustained move higher.

The fundamental story underneath the chart is just as strong: a Tier-1 U.S. hyperscaler AI memory design win, record Q2 revenue of $207.4 million (+20% YoY), and $824.9 million in cash and marketable securities.

Combine that with multiple catalysts staggered through the rest of 2026 and into 2027 β€” the Rambus Design Summit on October 22, Q3 earnings expected around October 26, the DDR5-9600 chipset rollout, and a more meaningful MRDIMM ramp next year β€” and RMBS looks like one of the more compelling risk-reward setups on the board right now.

If this is a trade you want to get in on, here’s how we’d play it. Below you’ll find our exact entry level, both price targets that imply 20%–34% potential upside, and the stop-loss we’re using to manage the downside.

Recommended Trade Setup

Item Detail
Buy Level Above approximately $108.00
Price Target 1 $130.00 β€” Potential upside: 20%
Price Target 2 $145.00 β€” Potential upside: 34%
Timeframe Next 3–6 months
Stop-Loss $96.00 on a closing basis
Trade Invalidation Void if price hits stop-loss before entry triggers

If needed, swipe or scroll sideways to view the full table.

For a risk of approximately $12.00 per share, the target rewards are about $22.00 and $37.00 per share. That makes this roughly a 1:2 and 1:3 risk-reward trade. In other words, the setup offers nearly 2x to 3x more potential upside than downside.

Note on Trade Invalidation: This recommendation stays active as long as the technical structure holds. If RMBS drops to or below the $96.00 stop-loss before the $108.00 entry triggers, the trade is automatically void β€” the support underpinning the thesis would have broken, and the risk-reward setup would no longer justify entry.

Happy Trading!

πŸ₯ˆ Almost Made the Cut

Today’s featured trade, Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS), was our top pick of several breakout candidates we evaluated. The following two stocks were strong candidates that made it to the final round β€” they came up just short of the top spot, but remain on our watchlist and could be featured soon:

Innodata Inc. (NASDAQ: INOD) β€” The AI data engineering company delivered 58% year-over-year revenue growth in Q2, while heavy call activity accompanied its sharp price rebound. A sustained move above the $70–$75 resistance zone could open a path toward the upper end of its daily volume profile. We ranked it just behind Rambus because two customers account for much of its revenue, a $300 million at-the-market offering creates potential share supply, and the breakout still needs confirmation.

Viking Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: VKTX) β€” Encouraging maintenance data for its obesity drug candidate VK2735 sparked exceptional trading volume and a 35.7% one-day gain, and the prospect of less frequent dosing keeps the company firmly in the obesity-treatment conversation. After that rapid move, however, the stock sits close to its prior $42–$43 highs; a period of consolidation or an orderly retest would offer a clearer swing-trade setup.
