Intel (INTC) is already up about 28.8% since we flagged it last week as one of our Top 10 Breakout Stocks — and thanks to a fresh breakout and a series of catalysts, it may be headed even higher.

At the time, we highlighted INTC as a breakout candidate with a buy level of around $50.60. Yesterday, the stock closed at $65.18. That’s a massive move in just one week.

Most traders would look at a gain like that and assume the easy money has already been made.

But here’s the twist: Intel has now broken out of another bullish pattern, which suggests the stock may be setting up for yet another leg higher.

The Catalysts Behind the Breakout

Intel is one of the biggest semiconductor companies on the planet. It designs and manufactures the chips that power PCs, servers, AI infrastructure, and foundry services. In plain English, it sits right in the middle of several themes traders continue to care about: AI demand, U.S. chip reshoring, and the race to regain manufacturing leadership.

For years, Intel looked like a lumbering old chip giant stuck playing defense while flashier rivals stole the spotlight. But now, with AI infrastructure demand rising and U.S. chip manufacturing back in fashion, Intel is starting to look like a stock with something to prove — and maybe something to gain.

This latest rally didn’t come out of nowhere. Intel has been stacking catalysts in a short stretch of time, and the market has clearly started to notice.

Date Catalyst Why It Matters
Apr 1 $14.2B buyback of Apollo’s stake in Ireland fab joint venture Signals a shift from defense to expansion mode and gives the market more confidence in Intel’s capital position and foundry ambitions.
Apr 7 Terafab partnership tied to Musk-linked AI chip project Connects Intel to a high-profile AI manufacturing effort tied to xAI, Tesla, and SpaceX ambitions, adding another AI/foundry angle to the story.
Apr 9 Deeper Google AI infrastructure collaboration Reinforces Intel’s relevance in AI infrastructure through Xeon CPUs and custom IPUs, helping strengthen the AI narrative around the stock.
Apr 10 Benchmark maintains Strong Buy; $76 price target Adds analyst momentum to the story and implies roughly 21.8% upside from current levels, giving traders a higher Wall Street reference point.
Apr 23 (upcoming) Q1 earnings report and conference call Could become the next major test of whether Intel can back up the recent optimism with stronger guidance, AI momentum, and execution progress.

That’s a lot of fuel in a short amount of time. Intel has gone from looking like an old chip giant trying to stay relevant to a stock with fresh catalysts, improving sentiment, and a chart that’s suddenly very hard to ignore.

So yes, the stock has already made a big move. But the setup no longer looks like a one-off bounce. It looks like a stock where the story has improved, momentum has returned, and traders may not be done with it yet.

The headlines may have helped light the fire, but the chart is what could determine whether this move has real staying power. Here are the bullish technical signals worth watching now.

Bullish Technical Signals

#1 Uptrend Channel Breakout: The stock had been grinding higher within an uptrend channel over the past few weeks, shown in purple on the daily chart. Now it has pushed above the channel, which is often a bullish sign that the move could have more room to run.

INTC – Daily Chart

#2 Price above MAs: The bulls still look firmly in charge here. The stock is trading above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is usually where you want to see a healthy uptrend.

#3 MACD Above Signal Line: Momentum still looks supportive here. On the daily chart, the MACD line remains above the signal line, which is usually a constructive sign for the bulls.

#4 Bullish ADX: The ADX indicator also looks constructive. The +DI line is above the –DI line, and the ADX line has started to turn higher, which suggests bullish momentum may be building.

#5 Above Support Area: The weekly chart is telling a bullish story too. The stock has pushed higher from a former resistance area that now looks like support, marked by the pink dotted line. That’s the kind of flip traders love to see, because it suggests old resistance may now be helping support the next move higher. And with the stock still trading above both its 50-week and 200-week moving averages, the bigger trend still looks like it belongs to the bulls.

INTC – Weekly Chart

#6 %K above %D: On the weekly chart, the %K line of the stochastic indicator has crossed above the %D line, which is typically viewed as a bullish sign.

#7 Bullish Aroon: The Aroon indicator also looks bullish on the weekly chart, with Aroon Up above 70 and Aroon Down below 30.

For a risk of approximately $5.70 per share, the target rewards are about $9.30 and $17.30 per share. That works out to roughly a 1:2 and 1:3 risk-reward setup — meaning the trade offers nearly 2x to 3x more potential upside than downside.

Risks to Consider

Even strong setups can fail, especially after a big move. A few things could knock this trade off course:

  • A breakdown back below the trend channel on heavy volume
  • Negative company-specific news or weaker-than-expected execution
  • Broad market weakness that pressures semiconductors or tech stocks
  • Disappointing guidance or a poor reaction to the upcoming earnings report

Happy Trading!

P.S. A strong chart is often what gets a stock on our radar — but that’s just the opening act. From there, we run the setup through our proprietary Alpha Signals vetting system to see whether the rest of the story backs it up. When analyst momentum, smart money activity, and other signals start lining up too, that’s when a good setup can turn into a much stronger idea.
